Once you start tracking your moon cycle...
you awaken ‘the primordial pre-patriarchal feminine’, says Sarah Durham Wilson
Once you start tracking your moon cycle, and revive the oft sleeping animal-body, the unearthed information becomes a trail map to awaken ‘the primordial pre-patriarchal feminine’, as Sarah Durham Wilson says. (Doesn’t that just hit the spot?)
At first, it can feel like quite a swell. It can arouse your body in a new way, to have all this attention paid to it all of a sudden. It can astonish your mind - all the new information to catalog. It can be emotionally overwhelming, because this has been going on your whole life, and you were at least partially oblivious to it before. That can smart a little. But don’t blame yourself, no one told you before.
It can seem like a lot at first, to track your menstrual or moon cycle. And it kind of is. It gives you profound and tangible conclusions to draw upon, that shift the foundation beneath you. Once you start focusing on the messages your body is giving you, during your moon cycle and beyond, it actually kind of takes a lot of bandwidth to be with all that information. It can feel like a lot to assimilate, a lot to decipher. It can seem really daunting. But listen, don’t give up.
Over time, through the changing seasons, it works itself into your lifestyle. You slowly become fluent in your body’s language. You naturally begin to see correlations and connect the dots between your psychospiritual, emotional, mental, sexual, and hormonal health - and how all that deeply affects your felt sense of place.
You start to notice how your relationship with the land, or lack of one, can also affect you. This part surprises me the most, how tethered women really are to the earth and the moon. How sick we can get when we lose touch.
Over time the pay-off is more wonderful and mystical than I can tell you. The sacred feminine comes back on line. This is unique to every woman, but I’m telling you, it’s what you’re searching for, this sense of connection and belonging.
This might be one of the most profound things a woman can do, to really get in touch with how the world, our culture, and the separation from nature and its cyclical rhythms, how much that deeply affects a sensitive nervous system.
Women’s nervous systems are biologically wired different than men. That is just a fact. Women have social nervous system priorities that are much stronger and much more influential than men. The social nervous system, simply put, is what keeps cohesion within a tribe, it’s also known as the ‘mothering instinct’. This gift is essential in community, because we evolved in settings where isolation meant very bad things. No surprise, it still does, and perhaps in more invisible ways.
This breaks down to a keen ability to sense small facial expressions and tones of voice, a willingness to forgo her truth or sacrifice her body for the good of the tribe, her capacity to nurture and care for other people and at times - and remember this is a biological instinct - to the detriment of her own bodily health.
When women follow their moon cycles and tune back into their land-based bodies, they start to realize how these kinds of self depreciation sacrifices truly affect them. Not just in the long term, but in their short term health too, which is detectable in the menstrual cycle month by month.
Women, we are so fortunate to menstruate. We are so fortunate to have this monthly opportunity to check our report card. And to make small changes over time that equal big lifestyle shifts. A life unfolds that has built-in sustainability and thriving.
That means figuring out the wisdom behind symptoms like, extreme pain during the menstrual cycle, fatigue during the menstrual cycle, chronic fatigue, hormonal issues, night sweats, digestion issues, pelvic diaphragm dysfunction like incontinence, the inability to relax, and painful intercourse. And so on…
Imagine a life where you don’t feel anxious that your cycle is coming, because it means you will no longer spends nights on the floor, vomiting from pain. Or you are no longer worried that you will create conflict at home, because you don’t experience extreme shifts of personality just before menstruation anymore.
There are a lot of small tweaks a woman can make over time, informed by the wisdom she’s getting from her menstrual cycle and the infradian rhythm (or the symbolic lunar rhythms if she’s no longer bleeding). Shifts that can make her feel juicier, energized, more embodied, fully engaged, and yes, libidinous.
And proudly living in her unique form.
While it bleeds.
While it ages.
While it emotes.
While it passes through different phases of reproduction.
While it deeply feels things.
These are visions that I’m working toward. That’s why I created the Infradian Year, my upcoming year long mentorship program. Not only are we going to get our grooves back, but we are going to do it together. Creating community to normalize the primordial pre-patriarchal feminine. We have only a few spots left, and we begin in March.
Beautiful my love, so beautiful 💖 and very high resonance. I'm so excited for the work you are doing🙏
